When he was a young schoolboy, working for his father in the family business, his father forced him to work long hours, selling office supplies, personal notions, and Chinese imports. Hussain was to learn later that there is more to business than just working long hours because working intelligently is the master key.
Sajwani had received a college degree from the University of Washington in economics and engineer, but after working for a short time as an engineer in the gas industry back in Dubai, he launched his own catering company that sold meals to the US Army during the Gulf War in the region.
That business was a great success and it taught him that he could succeed on his own in a big way by being prepared to seize an opportunity.
In 2002, Sajwani founded DAMAC Properties, a real estate development and management company, in response to a new edit put forth by the UAE.
Restrictions on foreign nationals immigrating to the country were being relaxed and Sajwani sensed that a real estate boom was about to occur. His estimate was absolutely correct and his company got off to a fast start.
Sajwani was an accomplished promoter and marketer which the public loved, with his catchy slogans such as, “A Free Bently With Every Apartment.” Who couldn’t learn to love that proposition, as his promotions were a smashing success? In fact, his first project was completely sold our way before construction had begun.
To date, the DAMAC owner has built over 19,000 apartments with an additional 44,000 waiting in the wings in various stages of construction. His luxurious accommodations were in great demand with their fantastic interiors and festive appointments. The Versace and Bugatti-styled villas were all the rage.
DAMAC certainly has been the foundation of the Hussain Sajwani family fortune. DAMAC properties have been ranked number one on Forbes 2017 Global 2000 list, which ranks companies on their compound growth annually on revenues from 2013 to 2016.
